Day 28

 Day 28

Don’t worry I’ll catch up with the other days but I’m trying to update what I can in town.

498-519

Day 28 was the most incredible day I’m full of surprises. After the fatigue from the heat and the hiking yesterday the last thing I wanted to do was get up at 4 AM to hike and beat the heat. The alarm went off at 3:30 AM and I drag myself out of my sleeping bagAnd if we went in the dark down the mountain. We were aiming for a water cash that was 13 miles away. On the way we passed the 500 mile mark and did the customary song and dance proclaimers style even though we missed the actual 500 mile walk by 1.8 miles.

As we reached the water cash there were some other hikers there and we had a chat and filled up my water. Then Ken A local hike it we had met two days earlier arrived with traumatic which included cold drinks bananas bread and the most spectacular cake I think I’ve ever seen. This made everybody’s day and we spent quite a bit longer than we had planned but loved every minute and we all felt very much recharged by the kindness and the food. During the time we were there a hiker named quad Zila arrived he is doing what’s called a calendar year triple crown. This involves walking the Appalachian Trail, Pacific crest Trail and the continental divide trail all in one calendar year over 8000 miles. This guy is quite a celebrity in the hiking world and a bit of a hero of rock hoppers.

We pushed on the final 7 miles to try and arrive at our destination of Hikertown by lunchtime which meant we had done 20 miles x 12 30.

Hochatown is a weird collection of movies that wild West town and trailer park. It has everything hikers could need place to hang out toilets showers and Lyft to the nearest shops. This is a bit of a hike or gathering place because it’s just before the hottest notorious section across the Mojave Desert and many people choose to hike this section at night so take the day before to prepare at hikertown.

We got the shuttle into the local café had a great lunch and we’re able to do a little bit of extra resupply to supplement the box that we had mailed here.

Lots of great people to meet and many hikers that we hadn’t seen before or hadn’t seen since very early on in our hike.

We will hike out tomorrow Night and so I have a semi rest day. The weather will turn cooler for a couple of days so we had to take it vantage and push through some big miles and then take a rest in a town called Tehachapi.
